Sample Speech
Thank you everyone for showing up and making this day wonderful. I must be really lucky to have so many amazing people in my life.
As I stand here wondering how to express my gratitude, I can feel my heart thumping loudly. It has been one of the best birthdays ever. I should thank each one of you for putting in the effort to make this day special. But here’s what I’m going to do instead. I’m going to share with you one of my best-kept secrets.
I’m a philosopher by heart. I know, I know, that’s not something you expected. But, hear me out.
I’ve turned 27 today and in these years of experiences, I have come to realize that there’s more to life than just having fun and going on new adventures. While it’s cool to have fun and adventure, there’s something way cooler than that.
Do you know what it is? It’s called mindfulness.
Birthdays can serve as a reminder of how you have been living your life. In essence, it acts as a mirror showing how you have lived your life so that you can see what changes you need to make and make them when the time is right.
As my birthday gift, I just want one thing from you – a promise. Please promise me that you will live your life more meaningfully. There is nothing as precious as this.
I would like to thank you once again for all your birthday wishes. I’m humbled by the fact that you had the patience to hear my speech. Thank you!
A Birthday Toast
A “birthday toast” is quite like writing a letter to yourself. Everyone must try writing a speech for themselves, and when you do, you must pour your heart out, acknowledge the good and the bad that has happened, and create promises to yourself that you can fulfil.
Here’s a letter that you can use it to wish yourself a Happy Birthday. Trust me, it feels good.
Dear Self,
Happy birthday. Its been 23 years since you have been born into this world. This world, full of sunshine, joy, and love. Of course, there are also viles in the world but I am so happy you have lived through it all. You are strong and brave, you are kind and powerful. I cannot thank you enough for taking care of yourself and for standing strong.
Today, I want you to celebrate yourself. I want you to appreciate all that God has given you, all your parents have given you, and all of the things you have made possible for yourself. Without grit, you would have never made it so far in life.
I want you to be kind to yourself, and love yourself a little more every day. I want you to take care of yourself just as you take care of others. I want you to vow that you will start prioritizing yourself more often.
When I think about the life I have had, I am so grateful to be in the place I am today. When I see others around me who are suffering through physical and mental pain, I want to appreciate you even more for staying true and honest to yourself and not slipping through cracks by getting involved with people or deeds that are not good for you.
I want to thank you for taking care of yourself throughout these 23 years and I really hope that you continually make an effort to keep this life as beautiful as it has been. All the best for this coming year. Don’t forget,
YOU ARE INCREDIBLE!
Why should I write a speech for my birthday?
Imagine opening up a written speech or listening to a video of yourself a year back. Wouldn’t it be so great to see how far you have come? If you aren’t doing it for your present self, at least do it for your future self so that one day they can find a video or a page titled “a birthday toast to me” and be amazed by it.
This year, write a birthday speech, read it out for yourself on your special day, and get motivated.
