Order of the Colors in a Rainbow

order of the colors in a rainbow

Rainbows are something we are always taught about in our classrooms from the very beginning. Whether it is in our elementary classrooms where we learn different colors or in our physics classes in middle school where we observe the Prism Rainbow experiments.

The point here is, that we have all seen, heard, or learned about rainbows, in one way or the other, however, do we all remember the order of the colors in a rainbow? Not all of us do. Hence, here is an article that gives you a refresher of the order of the colors in a rainbow.

What are the colors of a rainbow?

There are 7 main colors that one can see in a rainbow. These include Green, Violet, Orange, Blue, Yellow, Indigo, and Red. Many people claim a rainbow actually has 12 colors. However, the remaining colors can fit into buckets of the above-mentioned 7 colors. Know more about these 12 colors HERE

How can one remember this order?

While some find it difficult to remember the colors of a rainbow, it might get even more difficult to remember the order of the same. However, there is a technique to remember both the colors and the correct order.

VIBGYOR

Whenever you think of a Rainbow, you must always associate it with the word VIBGYOR. It is an acronym for all the rainbow colors in the right order. Hence, if you break it down it becomes violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red.

Isn’t it so much easier to now remember the colors and order of the rainbow? You can always use this technique and tell others about the same.
