San Diego is home to a vibrant business community, with plenty of opportunities and resources available to aspiring entrepreneurs. However, data shows that only 1.3% of local businesses are owned by African-Americans, making it challenging for small business owners to get started due to high living costs.

In an effort to enhance diversity in the city’s business community, Young Black & N’ Business, a San Diego-based non-profit organization, is working to bring awareness to Black-owned businesses, create new opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs, and empower the next generation of Black entrepreneurs.

Founded in 2017, the non-profit organization is made up of community activists, educators, and entrepreneurs who share a vision of increasing the number of Black-owned businesses in San Diego. The group regularly hosts events, workshops, and seminars that aim to provide African-American entrepreneurs with the tools and resources they need to succeed in the business world.

One notable event that took place was ‘BizCon 2023‘ at the San Diego Convention Center. The event offered an opportunity for entrepreneurs to learn from industry experts and network with other business leaders. It created a forum for Black-owned businesses to showcase their products and services to potential customers, investors, and partners.

The event was a huge success, with hundreds of attendees and participants from around the city. Young Black & N’ Business’s initiatives brought together entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and community organizations, promoting a culture of entrepreneurship and economic empowerment among African-Americans.

Young Black & N’ Business’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, and they have received support from the local business community. The organization has partnered with several companies, including Google, to provide mentorship and financial support for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Throughout the year, the group also offers mentorship programs, workshops, and other resources to help aspiring Black entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses. One of their initiatives, the “Young Boss Academy,” is a program aimed at educating young people about entrepreneurship, business management, and financial literacy.

Young Black & N’ Business is poised to make a considerable impact in increasing the number of Black-owned small businesses operating in the city. By providing mentorship, education, and access to resources, they aim to create a more equitable and diverse business community in San Diego.

The organization’s efforts are particularly important given the challenges often faced by Black entrepreneurs in accessing capital, markets, and networks. By being a voice for the Black business community, the organization hopes to empower entrepreneurs and create new opportunities that benefit the broader community.

Overall, Young Black & N’ Business has emerged as a beacon of hope for aspiring Black entrepreneurs in the San Diego area. With their continued efforts and the success of events like BizCon 2023, it’s likely that more businesses will begin to thrive, leading to greater diversity and economic opportunities in the region.
