In the small village of Apple Creek, Ohio, Brent and Stephanie Steiner discovered their passion for Amish furniture. Impressed by the quality and craftsmanship of these timeless pieces, they decided to share their love for Amish furniture with the people in Arizona. With the encouragement of Brent’s winter visitor parents, the Steiners made a bold move and opened their first store, Steiner’s Amish Furniture, in Sun City in 2000. Today, their business has grown to a 15,000-square-foot showroom filled with a wide variety of furniture styles, including transitional, mission, shaker, modern, and midcentury modern.
One of the hallmarks of Steiner’s Amish Furniture is their commitment to quality. Unlike many furniture retailers that outsource their products, Steiner’s Amish Furniture works directly with about 150 builders in Ohio and Indiana. These builders have different specialties in crafting dining, living room, and bedroom furniture, and everything is handcrafted in the United States. The Steiners take pride in the fact that they bring the furniture to their own finish shop before delivering it to customers’ doors, ensuring that every piece meets their high standards of quality.
“We work with about 150 builders in Ohio and Indiana,” says Pamela Sanchez with Steiner’s Amish Furniture. “We have them build the furniture to customers’ specifications. We bring it to our finish shop and truck it here. We deliver it to everybody’s door. It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it because it’s quality furniture. One of the things the Amish pride themselves on is that they hand-craft everything. It’s worth it.”
At Steiner’s Amish Furniture, customers have the unique opportunity to design their own furniture. With wood samples and kiosks available at both locations, customers can choose from a wide range of options to create furniture that fits their specific needs and style preferences. This customization aspect sets Steiner’s Amish Furniture apart from mass-produced furniture retailers, allowing customers to have truly one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect their individual taste and lifestyle.
The success of Steiner’s Amish Furniture has led to the opening of a second location in Tempe, further expanding their reach and bringing their high-quality handcrafted furniture to even more customers in Arizona. The 15,000-square-foot showroom in Tempe features the same diverse range of furniture styles and the same commitment to craftsmanship and customization that has made Steiner’s Amish Furniture a trusted name in the industry.
One of the reasons why Amish furniture has gained a reputation for exceptional quality is the Amish commitment to traditional craftsmanship techniques. The Amish community takes great pride in handcrafting furniture using time-tested methods that have been passed down through generations. This attention to detail, combined with the use of high-quality materials, results in furniture that is not only beautiful but also durable and long-lasting.
“Amish furniture is known for its durability and timeless beauty,” says Brent Steiner, co-founder of Steiner’s Amish Furniture. “We wanted to bring that level of quality to Arizona, where people can appreciate the craftsmanship and value of these pieces in their homes.”
The Steiners’ passion for Amish furniture goes beyond just selling it in their stores. They have taken the time to build relationships with the Amish builders they work with, visiting their workshops and getting to know their families. This personal connection allows them to ensure that the furniture they offer is truly authentic Amish craftsmanship.
