The Streaming Video Technology Alliance (SVTA) has recently launched a significant new initiative for the live streaming industry. SVTA University (SVTAU) is an online learning platform that provides courses covering various aspects of the streaming industry. The platform has already released its first course, Streaming Advertising 101, which is developed by the SVTA’s Advertising Working Group and conducted by Chris Hock and Zachary Cava.
The course is aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of streaming ad technology, workflows, and components within the ad ecosystem. It is designed for transitioning broadcast engineers, university graduates, and non-technical personnel who are keen to learn how to harness streaming video technologies to their advantage. The course outlines everything from video ads and media files to trafficking and reporting.
SVTA University offers free and paid courses to cater to the needs of different professionals. The objective of this initiative is to help bridge the skill gap in the live streaming industry and foster an ecosystem of well-trained streaming professionals.
SVTA President, Dr. Abdul Rehman, expressed his excitement at the launch of SVTAU, stating that it is a significant milestone in their efforts to promote the growth of the streaming industry by providing high-quality education to those interested in this field.
Upcoming courses include Streaming Essentials, Parts 1 and 2. Both courses are set to cover everything from infrastructure and delivery to encoding, security, and beyond. The initiative comes as a crucial step to enable a more secure and reliable streaming industry.
Both courses cater to people with different experience levels. In the Streaming Essentials course, participants receive foundational information about video delivery and all of its related facets. Through topics such as Understanding Streaming Media, Encoding for Streaming, or ABR Segments and Manifest, they will be equipped with tools that can add value to any streaming workflow.
In turn, Streaming Essentials II builds on the first course to provide a more in-depth understanding of streaming technologies, workflows, and codecs. This paid course includes a deeper analysis of video codecs, H.264, HEVC, AV1, VP9, and much more. That includes how to encode content efficiently, how to optimize for different types of devices, and streaming workflows.
Alongside the courses provided by SVTAU, the Streaming Video Alliance is investing in hands-on workshops and internships with trusted partners to help fresh talent transition to careers in the video streaming industry.
In conclusion, the launch of SVTAU and its first course, Streaming Advertising 101, signifies a critical effort towards empowering individuals with a passion for the streaming industry with knowledge and practical skills required to build successful careers in this field. The streaming industry is growing at an unprecedented pace, and initiatives like SVTAU will play a crucial role in ensuring that there are enough competent streaming professionals to sustain its growth.
