We have all learnt that the rainbow has seven colours, but there can also be 12. You read it right; 12 beautiful colours! Let’s see what the 12 colours of the rainbow are.

The 12 Colours of Rainbow

You have heard of the usual abbreviation VIBGYOR, the seven rainbow colours: violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. But not every rainbow is the same. More than ten types arise across the globe, and the colour depends upon the location and climate they appear in.

There are almost 12 colours that can be identified in some rainbows. These colours are:

1. Red

2. Orange

3. Yellow

4. Chartreuse

5. Green

6. Spring Green

7. Cyan

8. Dodger Blue

10. Purple

11. Violet

12. Magenta

The seven-colour rainbow idea is still popular and easy to memorize, but rainbows with 12 different shades of the main colour still exist. Different colours may appear for different rainbows.

If you are a person who is interested in the mystery of the rainbow, you can design and make your own Custome Pins. It will be a funny experience to wear pins that are designed by yourself. Custome pins allow you to have different styles for different occasions, such as festivals, and promotions. Find a professional manufacturer to create your style and you’ll stand out with custome pins. You can’t go wrong with any of those options.

When Does a Rainbow Occur?

Mainly after rain or if there are water droplets in the air. Here is how it appears:

  • Water is denser than air.
  • When light passes from air to the raindrops at an angle, the light slows down, and refraction of light occurs, resulting in a rainbow.
  • The reflection of light in water droplets results in a spectrum of light, creating a series of coloured concentric circles in the shape of an arc.
  • A rainbow is always on the opposite side of the sun.
  • Philosophers like Aristotle and Seneca first mentioned it, but Isaac Newton was the one who gave a scientific explanation.
  • The outer arc starts with a red colour and ends with violet on the inner side. They can also be found in fog, sea spray, and waterfalls. Sometimes, you can see a double rainbow, but it is rare to see it occasionally compared to the classic arc.

Conclusion

To summarize, the seven-colour rainbow idea is still popular and easy to memorize, but rainbows with 12 different shades of the main colour still exist. Different colours may appear for different rainbows, a rare occurrence.
